Gestalt therapy is a holistic approach that focuses on the present moment, helping you gain awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By understanding these aspects in the context of your life, it empowers you to make meaningful changes and live authentically.
To schedule a phone call, where we see if we're a good fit, please visit the Contact page and get in touch. I'll be happy to answer any questions and find a time that works for you.
I can sit with you even if you're struggling to find the words to tell me about your trauma. Your body and your nervous system are wise, and you'll take time to work through it. I'll be with you when you're ready — I can help you explore your trauma, process emotions, and understand how past events impact your present.
Yes, it's absolutely allowed to talk about sometimes feeling suicidal. I know that at times it can feel as though your own mind is turning against you, presenting experiences that are deeply distressing and difficult to continue. If you feel like you don't want to live anymore, I'm here for that conversation. This might mean I help you create a safety plan and explore how you build support and resilience in your life. In our work together, we can explore these hidden and frightening thoughts. You do not have to keep these feelings hidden away or carry them alone. I'll help you understand and make sense of these experiences while supporting you to move beyond simply surviving towards a life that feels more liveable and meaningful.
Before embarking on my career as a therapist, I had a diverse and varied professional background across several fields. For many years, I worked within the broader Health Service (NHS), where I held various roles in governance and management. These roles provided me with valuable insight into the inner workings, structures and dynamics of large organisations. I encourage you to look beyond these carefully chosen words. I know firsthand what it feels like to be overlooked or underestimated as a woman in a patriarchal corporate environment. I have witnessed bullying and experienced it myself. If you are facing similar struggles, I offer a space to explore these experiences with support and understanding.
Many people spend years concealing their anxiety — not just from those around them but sometimes even from themselves. Acknowledging your anxious tendencies can bring up mixed feelings. We can work together to recognise how anxiety keeps you organised and to become aware of the ways they have served and protected you throughout your life. Through our work together, you can begin to experience life without the constant need to scan for danger or brace yourself for the next thing to go wrong. This shift allows for a greater sense of ease and presence, making it possible to move forward without being defined by anxiety.
It feels like your brain never switches off and you're exhausted by overthinking and pretending you're fine. Our work will give you a place to explore what the real you wants and needs, where you don't have to perform or be a certain way to be acceptable to me.
In therapy, anything and everything is welcome. From your deepest fears to everyday experiences, this space is yours to explore. Whether you talk about the same issue repeatedly or bring up new topics, it's all part of understanding what matters to you. Topics like politics, race, gender, religion, or sexuality are all valid here. Share feelings about loss, death, or the challenges of health, ageing, or self-image. Even sensitive topics like sex can be explored without judgment. Therapy is a space to understand not only the things you bring but also how it feels to share them. It's about discovering yourself in the presence of a supportive listener.
No, though I do also accept referrals from other sources and psychotherapists / counsellors, you can self-refer to Wild Reed Therapy.
Your needs are individual and where possible I'll adapt to accommodate you. Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, three-weekly, monthly or even ad hoc.
This varies from client to client. Some people prefer to work in an open-ended way, whereas other people prefer to work with a fixed number of sessions. In all cases, you're the best judge of how many sessions you need, and I'm happy to work with you accordingly.
50 minute sessions cost £70. 100 minute sessions cost £140. If you have previously worked with me in a placement setting, and cost is a barrier, please get in touch to discuss my sliding scale.
No, absolutely not. I'll discuss confidentiality, what this means and how I work during your first session.
I'll introduce myself, talk about what brings you to therapy, and discuss your goals. It's a two-way conversation: I work and answer any questions — including any clarification you need. After our discussion, you can decide whether to schedule an appointment.
After greeting each other we'll go over my 'Psychotherapy Agreement' which I'll send to you before the first session. You can ask me any questions about how I work. Once we're both happy and have signed the topics I'll invite you to begin. I'll ask you what you'd like to talk about this session. It's ok if you don't know, or if you're not ready to talk. I can also help with that by explaining everything you need to know about how things will work in each session and what is expected of you.
Feeling worried and nervous about coming to therapy is completely normal — you are meeting a stranger to talk about your feelings. I've been that person, and I know how anxious it can make you in that first session. To reassure you, I will never 'make' you talk about anything. We also move at your own pace and only talk about things you are comfortable talking about.
Annoyingly I probably won't tell you what to do. I believe you're the expert in your life. I'll help you explore options, and I'll probably highlight possibilities you haven't considered, but I'm unlikely to advise you what to do. I'll sit with you and explore what it feels like to be stuck, or not able to choose which path, or not able to make a decision. I will though hold that I'm not the type of therapist who just sits silently and waits — if I think something will support your exploration, I'll say it.
Although support from friends and family can be invaluable, it's sometimes useful to speak to someone neutral, who has no other involvement in your life.
